The City Public Works department has had responsible climate action steps in place for many decades now. The city’s track record demonstrates a faster than expected greenhouse gas emissions decline, at a rate of 23%, which is above the 15% set by state target levels. The Climate Action Plan asks residents, community organizations, and businesses to take an active part in transitioning to a low-carbon future and clean economy. While the Plan’s focus is reducing greenhouse gas emissions, numerous other initiatives are in process to address rising sea levels, flooding, and wildfire risk.
