Carefree’s environmental efforts are focused on water conservation and consolidation. Water is a primary component of a quality lifestyle and economic prosperity for every community, particularly in the arid Southwest. Without an assured supply of quality water, life in Carefree would require dramatic changes.
The Colorado River, which supplies the water for use by the Central Arizona Project (CAP), is the source of the majority of the water used by both the Carefree and Cave Creek water systems. This area is at the 20-year mark of what many weather experts predict could be a 50 year or longer drought.
This transition for the Carefree Water Company to serve all residents of the Town of Carefree will require two-plus years to accomplish. This is a significant undertaking requiring a considerable amount of water infrastructure construction. Upon completion of this process, the entirety of the Town of Carefree will fall within the water umbrella of the Carefree Water Company
