Castro Valley is forging ahead with sustainable steps in the city with the Creek and Restoration Project, which restored this creek that was partially buried in concrete. Now it is a winding streamlined with trees and plants and a new pedestrian bridge which connects the library to the opposite side of the creek with a playground to learn about nature and science at the creekside amphitheater.
Castro Valley Ranch Library remodel to a ‘green’ building included dozens of steps to make it eco-efficient, beginning with Bay-Friendly Landscaping, which conserves water and prevents water pollution. Bay-Friendly landscaping is a holistic approach to landscaping that works with the natural conditions of the Bay Watershed and fosters soil health, conserves water while reducing waste and preventing pollution. Water-wise landscaping uses up to 50% less water than conventional methods.
The City provides these programs for residents to offer their time and volunteer hours.
