As part of San Mateo County, La Honda benefits from the “SSMC”, the well-rounded sustainable organization leading all cities in the San Mateo area. It works to drive impactful action on economic, environmental, and social equity issues that lead to sustainable practices and improves the long-term health of San Mateo County by following the “three E’s” of sustainability: Economy, Environment, and Social Equity. San Mateo has also set up the Office of Sustainability offering all manner of resources, materials, assistance, and incentives for La Honda residents.
La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve with more than 6,100-acres, considered by many as the gateway to the San Mateo Coast, features forests and redwood to the north, open rolling grasslands to the south, and spectacular panoramic views of the coast and ridgelines throughout. As a part of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space organization, there are many ways to volunteer and protect these La Honda lands.
